MISSION AS TRANSFORMATION

Dr. Alex Philip    Warm greetings in Jesus’ name! As we come to a close of an eventful year, we have many reasons to thank God and be  grateful. Here at NIEA it has been a busy year, full of activity directed by the Lord and many meaningful lessons learned as  we enter 2010. Interestingly the year 2010 is of great significance for evangelical Christianity, as we celebrate 100 years  since Edinborough 1910. It was at this strategic missions’ conclave at the turn of the last century that defined nearly a century of world missions. It several ways it became the epoch‐making event for the century which carried the Gospel far  and wide.
A hundred years later, the Church is enthusiastic about completing the task of presenting the Gospel to every person alive  – right in this generation. Technological advances, strategic networking, enhanced information about the lost and their  needs have sparked off several unique initiatives in the past decade alone.    Though faced with a variety of daunting challenges, HIV/AIDS for one – with one out of every two in South Africa being HIV+ for example; the Church continues to
extend her borders and push her boundaries further out.
I had a glimpse of this while visiting a distant and interior village last month in Bihar. Bhola Yadav, a well known landlord  in the area clutched his New Testament and convincingly said –“I have all I need – house, money, influence; but when I  read the Bible and believed in Jesus ‐ my life has changed. Now all I need is Jesus. Bhola is a servant of Jesus..”
Such vibrancy and words from the depth of one’s heart has been one of the several testimonies we have heard last month.  Only Jesus can transform a life; only Jesus can add direction to a life. Be it Bhola’s or anyone’s.
NIEA has been involved in key initiatives such as Training and Church Planting among the unreached/unengaged; in a host  of Child care services and Medical projects. We have literally seen thousands of people give their hearts to Jesus in dozens  of open‐air meetings held in the north especially. Our focus is still the same – but we have sharpened our thrust.
We are passionate about God’s mission of transformation – starting with the individual, extending to the family, society and nation at large.
Partnership with The Seed Company, Wycliffe USA and Wycliffe India have assisted NIEA in serving language needs in Bihar and now also with a potential of throughout India. A focus on development and identification of younger leaders across  the nation has brought understanding about the need for an inter‐generation conversation where the wisdom of the old meets the passion of the young.    Further, we continue to serve children’s multiple needs and advocate for the same
through the emerging 4/14 Global initiative.
I pray that NIEA will take a few steps into neighboring countries this year. Please pray with us about this.
As we celebrate Christmas later this month – I thank Jesus for blessing and sustaining each of you and providing for each one’s needs. His mandate is before us – To love God with all that we have; and to love our neighbor as our own selves.   His commission is to “make disciples of all nations.”
Thank you for standing with us and encouraging us to lift up the Savior’s name across the nation and beyond this last year.
We commit to do the same and even more this coming year. God bless and thank you for your partnership!
Yours on this journey of transformation!

    Director
