An Aroma to God

An Aroma to GodDr. Alex Philip

A few weeks ago, I was travelling with Chandra and a few of our younger children, from NIEA run orphan homes, who
had been participants at a state-wide Prayer meet here in Bihar. Their sincerity, love for God, passionate prayer – and
devotion moved me over the two day event.  I often noticed tears streaming down their cheeks as they interceded
for hours, for other children in Bihar (population 92m of which about 45m are below 18 yrs). There was something
special about their relationship with God that was beautiful and most compelling.

Earlier today in planning for post-graduation ministry opportunities I had the privilege to talk to some of our current
students. Anmol, a young Christian from Madhepura who is completing a year of Bible study in April, shared with
excitement his intent to spread the Gospel all over the state! In his eyes I saw devotion to Christ; his words reflected
firm commitment. I believe these all were reflections of a deep work of grace that God had accomplished in this lad
whose village had been washed away in Bihar’s flood disaster of 2008.
“For we are unto God a sweet savor of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:” (2Cor 2:15)
Followers of Christ such as Chandra and Anmol could be what St. Paul was referring to here. In God’s presence, we
are an aroma of Christ. Our fragrance, effect or aroma are all similar to Christ’s presence working in and through us.

In the tragedy such as in Haiti, we are called to be the sweet savor of Christ albeit amongst the poor, the sick, the
grieving multitude of children and adults. Sadly, all too often we forget that our aroma of Christ is a continual
function and not meant to be intermittently lost in the busy-ness of modern day hectic activity.

In the next few days and weeks, dozens of men and women will walk down graduation aisles at several NIEA Training
Institutes to receive their academic and training credentials. We praise God for them as they take their aroma of
Christ to several states of India and even beyond our borders. Thank you for making their training possible! About
2000 men and women are trained every year through formal and informal training programs. Be it in a
remote village such as in Supaul where about 165 gathered last week to hear God’s Word in their own mother tongue
or Paippad,Kerala, where about 180 pass through the rigors of academic pursuit – it is clear that the message
of the Living Christ is spreading!

We would like to place 100 servants of the Cross among the unreached and the unengaged peoples of India, where
God’s message of love will be delivered to them for the first time – and to many of them in their mother tongues
(Rev. 7:9) It takes about US $100 a month to send, care for and support 1 such couple. Would you pray about your part
in multiplying the harvest force to bring in the harvest, with great joy and in triumphant procession? Thank you for
your part in being this aroma in the world today and assisting to spread Christ’s aroma across the globe!
Thank you and God bless!!
Yours in Christ’s service,
Dr. Alexander Philip,
Director
