SOLDIERS OF THE CROSS

Dr. Alex PhilipThis past month has been of tremendous significance as several exciting developments have taken place.  About sixty young men and women completed graduate and post-graduate level theological training from NIEA’s pivot training centre in Kerala – the New India Bible Seminary.   Interestingly, the students of the year included representations from nineteen of India’s thirty states and a couple of South Asian countries including Nepal.  Please do join us in praying for these keen men and women as they pursue God’s call on their lives in the days ahead, forging ahead with pioneer church planting and evangelism among the unreached.

Also, we are grateful to God for the fast pace in the development of the Ladies’ Dormitory at the NIEA Training Centre in Bihar.  This facility will be able to comfortably board about 100 women at a time and several dozen more when others come for shorter term or weekend courses.  The strategic significance of this project is the eagerness and importance that women demonstrate to be trained and deployed for effective ministry.  At this center about forty will graduate the first week of April.

NIEA as you are aware  has been on the cutting edge of new paradigms in Bible translation in the Mother Tongue.  The ministry coordinated the crafting of 150 Bible stories in six Bihari languages – twenty five apiece earlier on.  Three of these languages being completely Scripture-less, have moved on to translation of St. Luke and the dubbing of the Jesus film in these languages.  However just last week, all the 150 Bible stories were uploaded on the internet and are available for free download for anyone in Bihar who has a 3G connection.  True, Bihar is a poor place –nonetheless market surveys indicate that India’s rural market is growing at an unprecedented pace and the government has offered 3G connections at cheaper rates than the existing 2G.  Please check out these at www.niea.mobi

Stephen Keel, of A Proverb A Day, has said that he believes that the mobile phone is the evangelist of tomorrow.  For us in India this is of tremendous significance as the mobile phone industry is huge with about 25 to 30 million subscribers being added every month.  Further, as NIEA serves other regions of India in the near future through Bible translation, this is perhaps a new trend in evangelization and discipleship that God is opening for us.

Paul reminds us, “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:14)   Serving the Lord is often not an easy task – faced with daunting challenges, unexpected circumstances and violent opponents.  Paul emphatically states that pressing forward is necessary.  Be it the global economic meltdown, a departure of evangelical conservatism, or other pressures that may stand in our way, we need to move forward convinced that the Lord who called us is faithful and that He will complete what he has started!

God bless and thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Gospel of Christ Jesus!

Yours in His service,

Dr. Alexander Philip,
Director
